DARE Prize 2017

A collaborative entry with Robin Dowell, this project proposal was shortlisted for the DARE Art Prize 2017.

The initial idea for the project came from a metaphor; that it was possible to compare emotions to bacteria. This was meant lightly; it was not a reflection on research into connections between gut-bacteria and emotions and the origins were firmly rooted in personal experience. We were entertained by the fantasy that perhaps it might become possible to culture emotions in the laboratory; that they might become visually tangible.

Our vision of the project was multifaceted; we envisaged it culminating in a book, but also considered the idea of an exhibition of backlit images, internally illuminated structures and possibly animation.
